Truth Initiative is America’s largest non-profit public health organization dedicated to achieving a culture where all young people reject smoking, vaping, and nicotine. Founded in 2000 out of the 1999 Master Settlement Agreement with major tobacco companies, Truth Initiative was purpose-built for this work, as we now address the serious public health crisis sparked by JUUL. https://truthinitiative.org/

"Let Them Eat Cake! " Recently, Haiden Prosecky was challenged to answer a Document Based Question (DBQ) on the topic of Federalism. He thoughtfully compared the working relationship between the state and federal governments to "kind of being like marble cake." That and "it's complicated." For his independent American Government course, Mr. Senoraske offered to bring marble cake if the essay was successfully completed with supporting evidence. To say the least, it was a success and cake made its way to the classroom today! Congratulations on a well-written paper!

Student Athletes of the Week! Connor Kane has done a great job stepping into a varsity role when the opportunity presented itself. He has improved tremendously during his freshman year. Connor is coachable because of his willingness to listen, eagerness to get better and strong work ethic. He is a great team player and always looking for ways to get better. Keep it up, Connor! Chloe Lee is receiving the athlete of the week honor for the second time this season. Chloe continues to demonstrate strong leadership by keeping her teams’ heads up through difficulty. She also takes time to explain things to her teammates. A critical need in order to develop a young team.

Important Message
Guest Speaker at Student Athlete Leadership Meeting: Last week, some of our student-athletes had a chance to catch up with Lucy Dernovesek. Lucy was a student-athlete at Lake Holcombe and found tremendous success individually along with the teams she was on. After earning All-State honors for basketball in high school, Lucy went on to play college ball at Michigan Tech. She said what made things a great experience for her was everyone worked hard to make each other better, there was strong leadership from upperclassmen, and we had fun as a result. One thing is for sure, there is no easy road to attain the successes Lucy attained as a student and athlete, but we sure appreciate her insight and words of wisdom on what it takes! Thank you for visiting with us!

Student Athletes of the Week! Payton Birkenholz has been giving 100% effort at practice. A habit that carries over to game time. Payton has been consistent and has developed grit as she finishes out her first varsity season as a freshman. She goes to the weightroom regularly and brings some teammates with her. Another sign that she is willing to do a little extra for success. Naturally, Payton demonstrates solid leadership skills by keeping a positive attitude. Keep it up, Payton! Kadyn Jones was nominated for wrestling. This past weekend, Kadyn placed 3rd at the conference meet in the 144 lbs weight class. Kadyn has been working very hard to improve his fundamentals and technique. This is beginning to show on the mat when it comes to competition time. Kayden has also been a great teammate by cheering on his fellow wrestlers through tough defeats and triumphant wins. Keep up the great work, Kadyn!
